1. How do I get Remo onto the mobile phone? Is it pre-loaded?
Remo is not pre-loaded on the handset. Users, who want the application, download it to the phone over the wireless network. This way, your company only pays for the number of applications it needs. The user downlaods it from the Data Applications area of the phone (e.g. Verizon Wireless calls it Get It Now). Select the shopping cart icon. Locate Remo in the "Get Messaging" type of category. After selecting the $7.99/month option, the Remo applet downloads OTA (Over-the-Air) to the handset.

2. What is BREW®?
BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) is a platform developed by QUALCOMM. The BREW platform's enhanced systems for supporting enterprise applications make it ideal for delivering low-cost, robust enterprise applications. More information about BREW can be found at www.qualcomm.com/brew. Remoba is a Qualcomm Select developer partner.

Wireless service providers market their BREW application offers under a branded name. Verizon Wireless markets these applications under the "Get It Now" brand.

3. How much does Remo cost?
Remo costs less than $100/year per users, often less than half the price of costs associated with BlackBerry or Treo. There are no service or maintenance contracts. The $7.99/month subscription fee is automatically renewable each month and the charges appear on your usual monthly service bill from your wireless carrier. The service can be cancelled by removing the application from the handset and terminating the Remoba Remo Web Account.

4. How does synchronization work?
A synchronization software client is downloaded and installed to the user's PC. When the user initiates a sync (either manually via a desktop icon or automatically via preference settings), the client connects to the Remoba secure servers. Depending on the user's preference settings, contacts and calendar content is copied to or from the PC to or from the Remoba servers. Corporate directory contacts are not accessed via the sync client and remain untouched behind the corporate firewall.

The user can specify in the sync settings whether contacts, calendar or both are synchronized. The sync client can work for multiple users on the same PC and the users are recognized via the computer operating system log in.

5. What desktop software is the synchronization client compatible with?
The sync client is compatible with Microsoft Outlook®, Microsoft Outlook Express® Lotus Notes®, and Palm™ software.

6. How big is the sync client and where does it auto install?
The sync executables are under 3 MBs, and by default, install in the Program Files\Remoba directory. Each user's configuration and log files are stored in the user's Application Data\Remoba directory.

7. Do we need to make any changes to our firewall to support the downloaded sync client?
In most cases, no. Most firewall configurations are compatible with the sync client, as long as the firewall allows https:\\ connections. Any issues regarding firewalls can be addressed by Emailing biz@Remoba.com.

8. How long does a "typical" sync operation take?
The length of a sync operation depends on a few factors: speed of Internet connection; whether contacts, calendar or both are being synched; whether it is a new account; and, the number of contacts/calendar events the user has. While there is no "typical" sync, a first-time user with a T1 line Internet connection with approximately 300 contacts and 5 calendar events a week may experience a sync process of 1-2 minutes. Subsequent syncs will be much faster, and typically last less than 30 seconds.

9. My company does not allow external software to be downloaded. Does this mean we cannot use Remo?
Our synchronization software has been certified for internal use by some of the strictest IT departments, including Verizon Wireless. A special version of the client that does not auto-update can be provided for internal testing and behind-the-firewall deployment. Companies wishing to do this option should work with Remoba directly to certify and receive the software. Users should then be told to download the sync software from internal sources instead of during the registration process.

10. Is Email stored on the handset?
No. Remo for Business does not push corporate or personal Email to the handset. Thus, if a handset is lost, no crucial business Emails are compromised.

11. Does Remo integrate with Microsoft Exchange?
Yes and most other email servers. If an Email is read by Remo using the IMAP port, it will be indicated as being read on the user's PC. Similarly, Email that is sent, forwarded or deleted appears as such on the user's PC. Sent Email is added to the Sent Email folder in Microsoft Exchange. At this time, Remo cannot move Email between Exchange folders.

12. Can attachments be viewed?
Not at this time. However, the Email indicates that an attachment has been included and the attachment can be viewed when the user returns to the PC.

13. How do Emails with embedded HTML come through?
Remo displays the Web page as plain text, so the user will see the underlying HTML code of the embedded Web page. For optimal performance, it is recommended that a company use plain text for its outgoing Email format.

14. Are Email transmissions secure?
Yes. The user need only select to have incoming and outgoing messages protected by SSL. See the tutorial in the Support section of this website for more details.

15. How does Remo read Email on my company's Email server & Global Address Book?
To read email, a dedicated, secure port is opened from the handset to the company's Email server. To read the company's corporate address list, the handset establishes a secure connection to the Remoba infrastructure. The search request is passed to the corporate directory through a secure LDAP port.

16. What kind of security does Remo use?
When Remo is configured to use security, no user data is transmitted until a secure connection has been established. Remo uses the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol to transmit data securely. SSL is the industry standard for transmitting sensitive information, like credit card numbers, over the Internet. SSL provides server authentication, data encryption and message integrity. With SSL security implemented, communications are transmitted in encrypted form between the Remo client and the corporate Email server. Only once the SSL connection has been established are the username and password transmitted to the server. Once the user has logged in, data can be securely transferred. Remo supports 128 bit SSL encryption.

17. Does Remo support security through my VPN?
Yes. Any SSL VPN that allows SSL client access to IMAP, POP3, and SMTP services on their native ports should interoperate with Remo.

18. Why does Remoba store my data? What data is stored?
Remoba servers are used to store personal contacts and calendar information for access by the handset. By storing the data, Remoba can provide access to the data 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of whether the user's PC is powered on and online. Only personal contacts and calendar data is stored. Corporate directories and corporate or personal Email are not stored on the Remoba servers.

19. How secure are Remoba Servers?
Remoba servers are co-located at a leading data center in San Jose, California. Several levels of security exist at the data center including biometric scanners, electronic key readers and security guards. Additionally, exterior and interior closed-circuit cameras monitor access. All Remoba networks are behind two layers of firewall protection.

More details regarding the administration, backup measures and audits can be found in the Remo Security Overview document available upon request.

20. Does my wireless carrier or any other third party have access to Remoba servers or its content?
No. Remoba has a strict privacy policy in place. Please review our privacy statements for detailed information. Remoba does not share data with wireless service providers or any third parties. Remoba may use aggregate information for business decisions but no individual content is shared.

21. How does Remo access my company's Global Address List?
Using Microsoft Exchange Server as an example, when the handset makes the request to access a corporate directory, the user's username and password (the same username and password that currently exists in the Exchange Server) are authenticated by the Exchange Server through a secure LDAP port. Once authenticated, the request is handled and the information is displayed to the user on the handset. Optionally, this can be configured to route through a corporate gateway or VPN.

There is no limit to the number of corporate directory contacts that can be accessed. However, the same access right and privileges determined by IT internally apply to Remo. No changes to these rights and privileges need to be made. Regardless of access rights, the corporate directory data stays behind the corporate firewall.

22. Can the corporate directory be downloaded into the handset using the Download Contacts feature?
The Download Contact feature only accesses a user's personal address book in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. If a user's personal address book in Outlook is configured to include the corporate directory, then the names, phone numbers and Email addresses can be downloaded to the phone's native phonebook. The number of contacts than can be downloaded is usually restricted by the limit of the handset. However each handset is different. Information about each handset can be found in the "Phones Supported" section.
